SILENT QUARRY SYNOPSIS
Silent Quarry is the sequel to the Kudu Productions film Sons of War in which the son of a World War Two veteran and his father were unable to discuss the father's service during the war. It appeared the elder thought it best to leave that time of his life in the dark forests and open fields of Belgium and Germany.

One experience the father did need to address was having witnessed the Nazi death camp at Mauthausen, Austria. This quaint village on the Danube played host to the largest concentration camp in Austria. A work camp established for the purpose of quarrying stone to be sold by those who maintained the camp, Hitlers elite guard, the SS. Here, thousands of prisoners were forced to work, malnourished and ill, cutting and carrying one hundred pound blocks of stone until only death provided them peace.

The father's eyes saw unimaginable things. His sense of smell never fully recovered from the short time he was there and its not clear if he was ever able to reconcile the insanity. When the need arose to confront those demons, he was fortunate to have his son at his side. A son who listened intently, but could offer no solace.

The father is gone now and no longer has to deal with the pain. His son however, needs to see the place that provided the only stage for what little they were able to discuss about the war. He traveled to Austria, found his way to Mauthausen and upon his return writes to his deceased father telling him what remains of the camp, how he now better understands his fathers need to talk about that time and place and the influence he sees it had on the establishment of the father's humanity.
